Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) and Enterprise Service Bus (ESB)

Building for the future does not mean abandoning current IT investments. Renewed legacy systems and new, custom-developed functionality can be integrated to work in new ways. With proper planning and execution, a service oriented architecture (SOA) can deliver compelling business benefits in the short, medium, and long term.

SOA is based on the concept of loosely-coupled components that are capable of interacting in a standard and transparent way, regardless of the platforms, vendors, or technologies running the components. The robustness of a SOA depends largely upon how its services interconnect. A robust SOA needs a universal and orchestrated mechanism to interconnect service consumers and providers without compromising security, reliability, performance, or scalability. In a SOA, the infrastructure layer that interconnects service consumers and providers is known as the Enterprise Service Bus (ESB).

ESB-integrated service oriented architectures enable IT to be more responsive to the demands of the business. Flexible, standards-based components can be developed, combined, and rapidly deployed as needed by the enterprise. New and upgraded services can be introduced with minimum impact on existing systems. SOA has become a critical enabler for companies to effectively respond to challenging market dynamics and capitalize on new business opportunities.

A transition to SOA starts by understanding your strategic vision and analyzing your current business processes. KITS will work with you to assess your IT infrastructure and develop an integration path that matches your unique business requirements and technical capabilities. The result is a clear direction for your SOA. KITS will then continue to work with you to make your vision of SOA a reality. With our expertise in SOA and ESB, KITS can quickly plan, design, and integrate enterprise solutions.
